I made a new friend! He's not Spanish, but he lives here. He's Argintinean and Italian. I've kinda known him for a while but now we talk on MSN so I've moved him up from rando to kind of friend haha. At least in the sense of someone to hang out with while I'm still here. (Which is only 37 more days!)
Also I was in the Pans and Company, which I guess would be the equivalent of Arby's, with some friends and this old man comes in and asks us if we are from the UVA program. How he knew is beyond me and he was like Welcome to Spain! Then he was like 1 piropeo, which is like a pick up line or can be more vulgar, like what construction workers yell at girls who walk past them. Anyway he was like "Your eyes are like roses" or something like that. And then he said something else about how when we look at the sun there 8 of something beautiful. I don't really know what he said haha. But it was adorable that someone's grandfather was reliving his younger years with four 20 somethings in a fast food restaurant. haha. But piropeos are part of Spanish culture apparently. And men do it because they like the reactions? At least that's how I interpret what everone has told me.
My media teacher bribed me into doing an act for the talent show.
This song
It's called La Desheredada. Anyway we had our first practice for it last night and we have to do this horrendeous dance. The guy who is choreographing it is too literal with the movements. And he wears really tight jeans... that doesn't leave much to the imagination, if you get my drift. It's supposed to be feminist hip hop :-/ And I guess it is but sometimes I think that it's KINDA cliche. The words dont really fit with the music. Rather, I probably can't fit the words to the music because I can't speak Spanish fast...yet.
So that was my day in a nutshell. Oh yeah! I practiced futbol in the rain with some girls from the program. And the guy who facilitates it kept us all extra late... in the rain and thanks to that i have a runny nose! But it was kinda fun. Except I suck and I think i pulled something in my lower back. It kind of hurts/ is sore. Don't even ask how I managed to do that. But I must comment on how my regatear (bargaining...with the ball) skills have improved. I don't know how to translate regatear to english. It literally means to bargain or barter but in soccer i guess it's more like faking someone out and going the other day. Anyway I've gotten a little better at it; but not by much haha. I've also improved my long passes! I can kick it with a little bit of a curve!

City of Arts and Sciences! This Saturday I'm going to the Oceanografique which is the building behind the glass building. It's shaped like a fish though I'm not sure if you can tell from this picture.
Everything sounds very fun. Although the old man hitting on me might have honestly just annoyed me.
ReplyDeleteIs the Oceanografique like an aquarium? I LOVE aquariums.
That is stunning
