Speaking of tomorrow, Juan Mata, a professional soccer player for Valencia CF, is coming to our school to chat with us. He's 20 (or 21) and plays professional soccer. Makes me kind of feel inadequate. But not too much.
Today, I went to the gym, then took a nap, went to class and then went shopping. I bought a cool tank top and a pair of shorts.
For the past couple of days, I have been trying to think of the perfect words to describe my trip to Morocco. I guess not trying too hard though because I really can't think of any creative words. Overall though, it truly was a learning experience. I learned how to hold my tongue, for sure. And learned to be a little more patient. I also learned some French and Berber.
I can't really say that the cities that I visited were beautiful, at least not in the traditional sense. They were so... Arabic, even though I probably don't have a good concept of what that means. I guess the style was very arabic with the arches and the walls that look like medieval castles and such and the tiles. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that is not beautiful. There were definitely beautiful sights, like the mosques, but overall just walking around in the streets, it wasn't beautiful. Fes and Marrakech were completely different and unlike any cities I have ever been to. But it was kind of what I expected. For example, the narrow streets with no names, the men who look/ say things to you, meat hanging from hooks in open air markets, lots of tea and spices etc etc. If you think about the movie Aladdin, it's kind of like that... as far as the setting is concerned. Would I go back? Yes, but probably to Marrakech not Fes, and I wouldn't mind visiting a beach city there.
Another thing I wanted to reflect on was the fact that I only have about two more weeks left in Spain. I honestly don't know where the last few weeks went! I guess it is because I had a lot of stuff due and I was really looking forward to semana santa. I keep getting really excited that I am about to leave Spain, and I haven't had any negative feelings about it. But then I remember that I am going to England and not straight home. So I'm trying to psych myself up for London. I won't have much money left so I probably won't tour Buckingham Palace (it costs like 30 dollars) but I do plan on visiting the BBC studios and a few markets and walking around the perimeter of the palace and Big Ben. I'm quite excited to eat some West African cuisine too. Yum.
I'm off to translate/ linguisticize/ read.
It's good to know that Aladdin was so realistic. :)
