Goats and stuff

This morning, Theresia, Merle (her little friend), Jonathan and I went to this wild animal park.  It was sort of like Maymont but you can feed the animals.  There were some really beautiful birds there.  I think the best part was the area you could go ino and play with and feed the goats.  I had to stay with Jonathan in his stroller but Theresia and Merle were running around in there for a good 30 minutes.  I fed some goats through the fence and tried to get the baby to do so as well but he was scared and tried to eat the animal food.

After the animal park we had lunch and then I finally got into the city.  I mean Hanau isnt much of a metropolitan city like Frankfurt or Munich.  It was more like going downtown.  I learned which bus to take to get to the center city, the main trainstation (for my frequent trips to Heidelberg), and to the VHS (the place where I'll be taking my German classes).

This past weekend we all went to Stuttgart to look for a new car.  The family is trying to buy  minivan because with my addition, the SUV cant hold everyone.  I was quite surprised that they even had vans in Europe (or SUVs for that matter) because everything in Europe is so small.  For example, the fridge in the kitchen is the size of a mini fridge you have in college.  Crazy small but this family (5 people plus me) has a couple extra fridges here.  Anyway, they were looking for a car but didnt find one that worked out.  Schade.
After the long day car shopping...we left at 7:30 am and finished around 2:30, Claudia surprised me and told me she would drop me off in Heidelberg to hang out with Xaver! That was probably the highlight of my day especially because i had been feeling a little big homesick and seeing a familiar face is always good.  That and i could finally speak in English!  Im glad that im picking up so much German but its SO HARD to try to a speak a language that you have never studied.   Im sure once my class starts it will be a bit better but thats not for another 2.5 weeks.

The kids dont have school this week, its their fall break, so i wonder what they have in store for me...

  1. I'm so glad to hear that things are going well with the family and that you're learning your way around town :) I miss you. Hopefully I'll get some mail out your way soon. School is starting to pile up and it's making me a lousy friend! sorry! <3
