Come to Spain, we'll hook you up with cool Spanish boys.

Last Wednesday I was sitting in the cafeteria in the UVA center taking advantage of their wifi and my phone rings.  Since it was a number that I didn't know, I was really excited to answer it. Turns out, it was my 'intercambio.' Which is basically a person that the program sets you up with to show you around and so I guess you can go back to the US saying that you know an authentic Spaniard. His name is Joaquin but he goes by Chimo which apparently is THE nickname. I guess like Tom for Thomas. Anyway, we make plans to meet on Wednesday.  All of the girls in the program have this thing about having a super hot intercambio and since mine was the first to get in touch, we are all talking about how attractive he is going to be.

...Disappointment.  He's not ugly, but he's no Jake Gyllenhall or anything like that. In fact he's quite "indie" he was wearing those thick black glasses and a windbreaker with stripes on the wrist cuffs. :-/ go figure. I come all the way to Spain and get matched up with the kid that looks the most American. I think the best part was the fact that he was wearing huge headphones and had an ipod and had like Of Montreal, Shiny Toy Guns, Arctic Monkeys among his top 3 favorite bands.  I think we are supposed to go see Franz Ferdiand sometime soon.  But... he barely speaks English so I don't know how he exactly enjoys those bands?

But my favorite part about Chimo is that he doesn't have the whole faux hawk mullet hair style going on.  That was popular back when I visited at 16 and I'm surprised to see that it is still around.  I think that Chimo and I are going to be best friends and I can't wait to go for a spin in his 1980's Citroen! I imagine that it will look something like this...
