What a night!

This past Friday, I had my first legit going out night. The night started with 750mL of 4 euro vodka and 39 cent Fanta límon and ended up with a bocadillo de pollo and a weird latino 20 something trying to act a fool.

The real fun started after two girls and myself broke away from the rather large group we were in. I think initially there were 10 of us or so. Lauren, Sarah and myself met up with some other people at this one bar that we frequent, Dick Tracy's. We made friends with the bartenders and they ended up giving us shots for 1 euro instead of 1.50. After we left there we wandered the streets looking for something to do where we ran into one of the many people trying to promote their bar/ discoteca. His name was Nicolais (he's French and Spanish) but spoke English really well. He con'd us into going into the bar he was trying to promote, but it wasn't too bad. At least people were dancing! Later he gave us free passes to this one discoteca and told us he would meet up with us, but not without first introducing us to some of his friends! Two of them were Peruvian and that was fun; one of them looked like a baby. They said they wanted to watch the superbowl with us on Sunday.

Later we finally made it to the discoteca, Rumbo I think i twas called. There we met this guy from Ohio who looked like he missed a stage of evolution because his forehead was exactly like a neanderthal, except no unibrow. The girls and I learned 2 valuable cultural lesson at Rumbo: 1. Girls do not approach guys and 2. Sometimes guys do "just want to dance" ...with each other. However, we did end up dancing with some people but when it got too touchy feely, we (read I) decided it was time to go.

By this time it was just about 4AM and we were tired and hungry, so Lauren and I made to this place called horno del borracho (oven of the drunk) and tried to get some food. We definitely stood out because we were the youngest, we are women and we are both black. Everyone in there was a man that had to have been over 30. It was kind of intimidating. The food was good though! As we were leaving, this cracked out guy started calling out to us and usually we ignore them and it's fine. But he actually came up to us and got really close to Lauren so she ended up in between him and the wall. It was pretty sketchy, but there were other people around. She told him to leave her alone and he said something that sounded like he said that he was a nice guy but maybe the next time he wouldn't be so nice? Maybe I was just caught up in the moment and thought he said that but I definitely heard some of those words. I was about two seconds from whipping out my pepper spray pen (THANKS ASHLEYYYYY), but he left us alone. I hear that pepper spray is illegal here but if it had come down to it, I guess I would have had to spend a night in jail, because I definitely would have used it.

So there you have it, the recap of quite an eventful evening. Here's to having plenty more! ...minus scary crazy men.
