Fallas 2009

Fallas is a time for large floats made out of wood, fireworks, little children staying out until the wee hours of the morning when they should be in bed, not sleeping and lots of music. On just about every other street there are giant fallas. I guess maybe you can tell the size from the man that is standing in front of it. He is standing quite far away (as was I) and you can see where his head reaches on the fallas. ...It's also taller than the building behind it.
Last night there were fireworks. Today the fallera girls are going to be parading through the city and then tonight more concerts, fireworks and music in the streets.

  1. Wow, I thought that float was a painting at first... I didn't even realize what it was. It's huge!! That's so neat.

    :)

Anyways, my story... Well, I was just writing about the sea and then I remembered in Costa Rica how Brinda and I saw this severed seal's head on the beach. We couldn't tell what it was at first and by the time my brain registered it was really too late to turn around and forget it. Then this vendor, pushing a cart came by and started telling us how the sea was like a women and how she could see calm and peaceful but had the ability to basically to be vengeful. Then he said we were beautiful like "la mar."

As I was writing that kind of just popped into my head, just like it suddenly popped into the story.
